Sunday Scenery – Outer Banks, NC

  Outer Banks, NC

This is my offering for Sunday Scenery, a cool meme created by my friend, Lee, at Tarheel Ramblings. Check him out. Today he put up an absolutely awesome photo of the Blue Ridge in Boone, NC, in the northwest corner of the state. So I chose a pic I took at the other end of the state, at the Outer Banks around Kitty Hawk.

BTW, as an aside, I had gotten up very early on the morning I took this picture so I could watch the sunrise. I was on a college hunting trip with my son, Kevin, and a few of his friends, and we had stayed up very late the night before. The Best Part was the surprise of finding my son already outside, doing the same thing, waiting to enjoy the sunrise. The “nut” doesn’t fall too far from the tree!

  1. Great shot, Ferd. Although I have more pictures in the mountains than I do the beach, my preference would be for that reality to be the opposite. I prefer going to the beach, but it's just too hot to enjoy camping there in the summer. 😀

The story behind the picture really makes this a special image. I'm glad you decided to share it as Sunday Scenery. It feels great when we find out that our kids enjoy the things that are special to us, isn't it?

By the way, I added you to the "Mr. Linky" list. I kind of jumped the gun and turned off the ability to add to the list a little too early. Sorry about that.

  2. Ahhhh! Lovin' the blues! Your story reminded me of the time my husband and I set the alarm clock for 3AM to catch a shooting star marathon. We drove a couple blocks to get away from street lights and pulled into a parking lot for a garden nursery.

Imagine our surprise when we found at least a dozen other cars there, with people doing the same thing. Some people had brought their kids, still in their pajamas and we all watched the shooters, laying on our hatchbacks or sitting in lawn chairs. It was so much fun being up that early and seeing such beauty. And the spontaneous party was icing on the cake. I'm glad you made me think of that. Have a great day!

    Thanks, bro.

And I mean it. I really did love that picture of the Blue Ridge at Boone. One of the first road trips we plan to take is 421 from Winston straight out to Boone. Won't forget my camera!

I am SO not surprised you have been to and like the Outer Banks. We have such parallel lives it's not funny. I hope they are not completely parallel, because then the lines would not meet, and I hope our paths do indeed meet someday.

That's a great story about the 3AM meteor shower! What a fun, memorable thing that turned out to be!
