What makes you a writer?

We all write, right? We sign our names, write notes, make lists, compose texts, create content, and so on. Some people write for a living--in the news business, science, industry, and educational fields to name a few. Some of us dictate for hours each workday, which in my mind counts as writing. But to me, the word "writer" conjures up the idea of someone who makes up stories and writes them down. Even further, I imagine that person to be dedicated, almost addicted to the process, maybe writing every day. Are you a writer? Is it part of your job? Or is it an avocation? Do other people read your work?
