I’ll share a sentence or two from a letter I sent them after they left: “I love how the five of you enjoy each other’s company. I am extremely proud of the way you have all turned out to be good, intelligent, interesting, humorous, musical, productive, fun-loving people. (I could have listed more adjectives, but I was fearful of a reprimand from Kelly. Overuse of adjectives, or something. LOL!)”

Then, for what seems like a lifetime, the yelling was all about #4, Brett Favre. Here’s a picture of my mom at the recent 21st annual Crotte family fantasy football draft. Yes, that’s a little shrine to St. Brett.
He might do it, I’ve seen him play and he’s good, but Aaron Rodgers has some mighty big shoes to fill. But no matter, she’s still screaming and yelling at the TV.

Our first stop was to visit Ginny in Cincinnati. We bought her an area rug for her birthday for her apartment living room, so we brought it with us from Winston and installed it. It is always great to see Ginny, my second daughter! She has grown up to be a pretty amazing young woman, with a wonderful sensitivity that draws people. She’s a counselor and advocate for abused children, working in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
The following morning, we drove up to Columbus, and dropped off some furniture that we brought down for my brother Al and his family. Here I am with my SIL Kirsten and my two nephews, Christian and Daniel.
We then met Gail’s niece Aamanda, who also lives in Columbus, for a quick lunch, and still made it to Toledo in time for a round of golf with Kevin, and then dinner at Gail’s sister Amy’s. She and husband Rick put on a tasty dinner, especially considering it was last minute on a Friday after work.
Saturday morning was the 21st annual Crotte family fantasy football league draft. We look forward to this every year. We could have done it online from Winston, but it was much better live and in person at my parents’ house. Our team, Salsa Picante, is owned by me, Gail, and Kevin. More news on this as the season unfolds!
Afterwards we met with our realtor, saw Gail’s parents, and then went back to my parents’ house for my father’s 80th birthday celebration. Well, one of them as this was not the actual day. BTW, have you ever tried to find a 80th year BD card? I think they’re hard to find! I had to get a 50 + a 30!
We had a very full weekend! I am grateful for all the people in my life! I’m grateful for cars and U-Haul trailers and easy roads. I’m grateful for the mapping functions on our iPhones. My gratefulness is overflowing today!
Be careful if you’re driving home this weekend! And remember, no TWD! (texting while driving)

Megan and her husband Mike had a nice Father’s Day dinner for me just now, a day early because I’ll be on the road tomorrow. It was great! A beautiful evening, great company, and great food! How do you like my “Dad” fruit pizza?
Kevin and his girlfriend Stehanie were there, and so were my parents, so I was able to spend a little time with my father as well.
Being a father to my four children has been the best and most important part of my life! It still is. They are all grown adults, but they will always be my very heart and soul!
And as I grow older, my feelings for my father seem to get warmer and warmer. I’m glad of that. The complicated father-son thing has settled into complete acceptance. I can now see beyond the imperfections, beyond my own personal issues that have clouded certain relationships in my life. I can better appreciate his struggles, and his contributions to all that I am. Gracias, Pa!
It was wonderful catching up with Kelly in AZ these past few days. I enjoyed meeting her manfriend, Jamen. As a father, it gives me great joy seeing her make the decisions that shape her life. A colorful life. Like the unfolding of a beautiful flower.

I am still in a suspended state of disbelief that Wake Forest lost in round 1. I can’t accept the humiliating way that turned out. When I get back to Winston-Salem, I might just have to stop at Wake and slap those girls around a little bit. Damn!
Without 2 teams in the final four, I will continue to gradually fade away. But I have good reason to still be excited. Carolina and Duke are still in it!
BTW, the solid leader in The Crotte Family Hoops Pool is my niece, Charlotte. She’s my brother Ed’s daughter, and a Michigan State graduate, and she is a tough competitor! I don’t really mean it, but “Go, Charlotte!” ; )
